Q McCrae and Costa’s Five Factor Model of personality, also known as the Big Five, is the most popular and, according to research literature, the most accurate representation of our trait dimensions in personality psychology today (Funder, 2001, as cited in Speilman, et al. 2020). The five traits in the model are openness to experience, conscientiousness, extroversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism, which can be remembered with the mnemonic OCEAN. Consider, too, Susan Cain’s TED Talk and where you fit on the introversion-extraversion spectrum as you take The Big Five Personality Test. Click on “Big Five Personality Test” to take this free version of the test, and then substantially answer (in paper format, not in question and answer format!) the questions below in your journal. Journal Questions How did your results on the Big Five compare to how you perceived yourself? What were you surprised by? What reflections do you have on Cain’s TED Talk, particularly in light of your results? How might your personality traits influence how you understand and interact with patients as a health professional? To submit this journal, select the "Create Journal Entry" prompt above.
